Le terme bootleg (ou Mashup) a été détourné par le milieu des DJ pour désigner l'art de mixer deux chansons pour en faire une troisième. On retrouve la notion de détournement de chanson mais respectueuse des artistes bootlegués. Un bootleg est usuellement désigné par les noms des deux artistes bootlegués, séparés par le signe VS (versus), éventuellement accompagné du DJ auteur du mixage.

Art Mashup (exemples) est un détournement d'oeuvres d'art dans un cadre publicitaire. Les modifications graphiques sont alors forcément plus nombreuses que pour un Ad Mashup.
